Who can apply to be an electrical tradesperson?

ENERGEX values diversity and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply including women, mature age applicants and members of indigenous and other minority groups.


What are the requirements for applying?

All applicants must:


  • Be an Australian Citizen or eligible for permanent residency in Australia;
  • Possess a current drivers licence or have the capacity to acquire this licence prior to commencement date;
  • Be comfortable working at heights of up to 18 metres from ground level;
  • Have completed an electrical trade;
  • Possess a Queensland Electrical Licence.

How can I obtain an electrical licence?

To work as an electrical tradesperson with ENERGEX, you must possess a Queensland Electrical Licence which can be arranged through the Electricity Safety Office (ESO). Contact them on 1300 362 320 or go to www.deir.qld.gov.au/electricalsafety/. Please note, you are able to apply for employment with ENERGEX prior to obtaining the licence however it is a condition of employment that you possess one before commencing with us.


What training will I receive?

ENERGEX is committed to providing extensive and comprehensive training to enhance and develop your current skills and to ensure you are qualified to work safely and effectively on our distribution network. We have a monthly intake of new staff, all of whom spend an initial period of five weeks (minimum) at our training school where skills are assessed and training needs and requirements determined.


What salary and benefits can I expect?

ENERGEX tradespeople start at $58,305 per annum (depending on industry experience and qualifications), plus superannuation, allowances and performance incentives. You’ll be working a nine-day fortnight with expected participation in an after-hours standby roster and availability during emergencies and storms. A reasonable amount of overtime may be required.

The salary figure quoted is current as at October 2010 but is subject to change. Employment conditions with ENERGEX Limited are regulated by the ENERGEX Union Collective Agreement 2008.


Will I be supplied with uniforms and tools?

Yes, we’ll give you six complete sets of ENERGEX uniforms, including all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). You will also receive a weekly tool allowance.


Will I get any holidays?

Your entitlement will be four weeks annual leave per year.


What hours will I work?

You will work a 72 hour, nine day fortnight. Start and finish times may vary according to your work locations; however your standard working day will be eight hours.
